Welcome back, fight fans! It's time for another Short Fighters recap of the EVO 2024 tournament. Today we're looking at one of the most electrifying matches from that event: Oniya versus BIP in a Street Fighter 6 showdown that left everyone gasping for air.
Right off the bat, you could tell this wasn't going to be your average match. Both fighters entered with an intensity that was palpable even through the screen. Oniya, hailing from Japan and known for his aggressive playstyle and technical brilliance, was up against BIP, a rising star from South Korea who had been tearing through brackets with his strategic precision.
The first round kicked off with both players feeling each other out. They traded blows evenly until Oniya found an opening and unleashed a devastating combo on BIP's Chun-Li using Ryu’s Shoryuken uppercut move followed by Tatsumaki Senpukyaku hurricane kick which sent her flying across the stage.
BIP bounced back in round two though; showcasing why he is considered one of the best defensive players around. He anticipated every move Oniya made and retaliated swiftly with well-timed counters using Chun-Li’s Spinning Bird Kick to keep Ryu at bay while chipping away at his health bar gradually but steadily.
But it was round three where things really heated up - literally! With both fighters down to their last sliver of health, they engaged in a tense standoff waiting for just the right moment to strike. Suddenly, without warning, Oniya activated Ryu’s V-Trigger II – Kakko Fubatsu or "Inextinguishable Flame," coating Ryu's fists in fiery energy increasing damage output significantly!
Not missing a beat though, BIP responded instantly activating Chun Li’s Kikosho super art creating an enormous energy ball aimed straight towards Ryu! But here comes what no one saw coming: In split seconds, Oniya used a perfectly timed parry to deflect the energy ball and followed up with a devastating Shoryuken uppercut that made contact just as the V-Trigger ran out. The crowd erupted in cheers as BIP's Chun-Li hit the floor, marking an exhilarating end to an unforgettable match.
This was truly one of those matches where you were on edge from start to finish. Both competitors showed exceptional skill and strategy but it was Oniya's fiery determination and split-second decision-making that ultimately secured him victory.
